While Ms. Brent looks the folksinger part, her enchanting work here is much more cabaret than coffeehouse.  Sung almost exclusively in minor keys, the omnipresent romantic themes are typically dark. Even when a major key does appear midway, on “Dark Highway”, the mood doesn’t shift.  While work this monochromatic is risky business, she pulls it off the whole set through; her graceful delivery allowing her worldly-wise lyrics to do their work.  Strategic organ and strings add to the exotic atmosphere.  Strong tracks include “The Mirror”, “Another World” and “Already Gone”.
